Low Velocity Impact Claims

What Does ICBC Mean by Low Velocity Impact (LVI) Claim?

Lawyers serving Abbotsford, Surrey, Greater Vancouver and all of BC

Lots of injured people are told by ICBC that they aren’t hurt because there wasn’t much damage to the vehicles. ICBC calls these claims “low velocity impact crashes”, or “LVI” for short.

If ICBC decides your crash is an ICBC LVI claim, they may say you aren’t hurt. By doing this, they conclude they don’t have to pay you out any money. The fact is, however, that low velocity impact crashes can and do cause people significant injuries.

Low Velocity Impact doesn’t mean you don’t have an ICBC claim?

If you are hurt and ICBC is denying your claim, don’t assume that you don’t have a claim. Don’t take ICBC’s word for it. It’s your right to start a lawsuit. Vehicle damage is not a great indicator for how much personal injury a car accident victim suffers.

Fortunately our courts do not recognize ICBC’s low velocity impact policy. When you talk to a personal injury lawyer, you’ll get a better idea of what kind of ICBC claim you have. You should be telling a lawyer what your injuries are and the difficulties and pain that you’ve gone through. They’ll be able to assess what our courts have determined is fair for someone in your situation.

Meeting with a Personal Injury Lawyer in Abbotsford or Surrey

PLEASE NOTE that we will probably discuss your claim on the telephone before meeting with you if your claim is an LVI.  Due to our expanding file load, we are selective about the LVI cases we take on.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but we like to understand the nature of an LVI claim before agreeing to take the case on.
